Disasters

Brins Mesa Fire – This fire burned 4,317 acres (17 km) on Brins Mesa, Wilson Mountain and in Oak Creek Canyon in June 2006. Fighting the fire cost an estimated $6,400,000. As a resident of Sedona at that time, I want to give a huge “Thank You” to all the amazing firefighters and support staff that fought this beast. You all did an amazing job. Due to the size of these images, they are only available in 8×10 prints.

Controlled Burn – At Oak Creek Vista, near Flagstaff, Arizona.

Grand Canyon Death – These photographs show a body being removed by helicopter from the Grand Canyon, with a California Condor, Gymnogyps californianus, in the foreground.

Tornado Damage – On October 6, 2010 a series of tornadoes hit Flagstaff, Arizona, and the surrounding area. You probably saw the damaged homes on the news. The eight tornadoes rated between EF1 and EF3. One of these tornadoes was on the ground for 30 miles. Some of the damage included:

  • Dozens of homes being destroyed or damaged.
  • 28 train cars were derailed near Bellemont.
  • Highway 17 was closed due to debris from an RV sales lot. 35 RVs and trailers were destroyed; a $600,000 loss.
