By now you have probably seen and heard about the fire at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, and the destruction of the Grand Canyon Lodge. It’s truly a sad turn of events.

In September of 2019, my wife and I were lucky enough to spend a week at the North Rim, and it was a magical experience. The weather was perfect and the Aspens were vivid yellow.

We went on several hikes, including the Point Imperial Trail (photos below), a trip to Angels Window (photo below) and we even saw fog rolling over the canyon while eating breakfast at the Lodge. Our server said he had worked at the Canyon for several years, and never seen fog like this (photo below). As far as I can tell, the locations in my photos were not damaged by the fire, except for the last image.

Since the Lodge, post office, visitor center, sewage treatment facility, water purification facility and many cabins were destroyed. The North Rim will be closed for the rest of this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s closed for the next two years.
